FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ
How much capacity do your urns hold?
All StillWood urns are available in two capacity options to accommodate different needs.
Both sizes are designed to hold the ashes of most adults. During checkout, please select the capacity that best fits your needs so the urn is built to the correct size.
If you are unsure which option is appropriate, feel free to contact me and I will gladly help you choose.
Where are the urns made?
Every StillWood cremation urn is handcrafted in Southern California by one person — me — from start to finish.
This is not factory production. Each urn is made individually in my workshop studio with patience, care, and attention to detail.
What materials do you use?
I use only solid hardwood such as maple, walnut, or oak.
There is no MDF, no particle board, and no veneers — only real hardwood.
The finish allows the natural wood grain to remain visible, so every urn has its own unique beauty and character.
How are the urns built?
Each urn is built using traditional furniture joinery, the same methods used in fine cabinetry.
I have over 30 years of experience in fine cabinetmaking, working for established companies and on my own projects. The same craftsmanship and professionalism used in fine furniture goes into every memorial urn I make.
No nails.
No construction screws.
No shortcuts.Every urn is built slowly and carefully — one piece at a time.
How does the urn open?
All StillWood urns are designed to avoid accidental openings.
The urn is filled from the bottom, not the top.
The lid you see remains permanently closed, creating a clean and seamless appearance.
The bottom panel is secured with provided bolts, keeping the urn safely closed so it cannot open accidentally or without authorization, and can only be accessed when the family chooses to.
Can you make a custom urn?
Yes.
Because each urn is handcrafted, I can sometimes take special orders if my schedule allows.
If you would like something different, we can discuss options such as:
• adjusting the size
• changing the wood species
• modifying the cross or other religious symbols
• adding certain design detailsOnce we discuss the request, we can agree on a price and timeline before the urn is made.
How long does it take to make an urn?
Most urns take about one week to craft.
Each piece is made slowly and carefully — one urn at a time — so the final result reflects the level of care it deserves.
Do you ship within the United States?
Yes. I ship anywhere in the contiguous United States.
Each wooden cremation urn is carefully packaged to protect the hardwood, the finish, and the craftsmanship during shipping.
Can urns be returned?
Unused urns may be returned within 30 days of delivery.
Because these are memorial items, returns cannot be accepted once cremated remains have been placed inside the urn or if the urn has been personalized or engraved.
The urn must also be unused and returned in its original packaging.
Who pays for return shipping?
If the return is due to damage or a defect, StillWood will cover the return shipping cost.
For other returns, the customer is responsible for return shipping.
Why choose a handcrafted wooden urn?
Many cremation urns available today are mass-produced using manufactured materials.
StillWood urns are built from solid hardwood using traditional woodworking methods, creating a piece that feels more like fine furniture than a container.
For many families, this provides a more meaningful and lasting way to honor a loved one.
Can you help me choose the right urn?
Of course.
Choosing a memorial urn can feel overwhelming, and I am always happy to help.
